Worcestershire LEP Annual Conference 2017
Project Technician, Southco Inc.
During this time, she gained a NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering, undertook a BTEC National Diploma in Engineering Manufacturing, which she completed with Distinction, and enrolled on a Foundation Degree course through Coventry University at Worcester College of Technology.
While at Dytecna, Pippa contributed to projects in both military and commercial industries, working with customers and suppliers on a daily basis. Upon Dytecna’s liquidation in her third year, Pippa sought employment with Southco Manufacturing where she completed her apprenticeship. Now fully qualifies, she works as Project Technician, managing project for customers in Europe and India.
“The apprenticeship gave me an opportunity that I didn’t know I actually had. Not many people my age can say that they have gained the knowledge and skills to work within their chosen industry, as well as continuing further education.  I am very fortunate to have been given an apprenticeship with such a good company and the support of W/HGTA”
Philippa Dressler-Pearson, 2017
Pippa completed her GCSE’s in Hereford after which decided to give Sixth Form College a try. It was during her second year in College that the apprenticeship route was presented to her as an alternative to University.
With the support of her parents and careers advisor, Pippa applied for an apprenticeship programme through the local engineering training provider, the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association.
Pippa was successfully offered an apprenticeship with the Malvern-based manufacturing company, Dytecna Ltd, and started her four-year apprenticeship in September 2012.
